A mobile application exclusively for the medical fraternity, WhiteCoats provides a digital engagement & collaboration platform for doctors and medical communities.
Dotweb was commissioned to do a usability test for the application and suggest enhancements for making it more efficient and easy to use. Due to the nature of target user’s busy time schedule, some tests had to be set up at the doctor’s office. The challenge was to make sure, even in an event of disruption, there is a minimal impact on test results.
Kicking off with stakeholder workshop to understand the product and requirements, we quickly move to heuristic evaluation to give them the first level of enhancements. Evaluating from different perspectives dealing with visual, cognition, intellectual, motor abilities and other heuristics, quick enhancements were suggested before going into usability testing.
Heuristic Insights Severity Distribution Chart
To study user behaviour, identify usability issues and influences in context of use for all primary scenarios, we set out to do the usability testing with doctors of different specialisations based on personas.
Scenario Based UT.
Live Observations and Recordings
After the UT, extensive and careful analysis of the qualitative data from our live observations, recordings were done to arrive at important usability metrics like time-on-task, success/ completion date etc. which led us to insights on the key usability and experience issues.
Task Completion Analysis
We suggested ‘Quick Wins’ that could be incorporated to quickly enhance the experience of the product and also provided insights on ‘Learnability’ and ‘Desirability’ aspect of the product along with suggestions on how to support distractions and reduce cognitive friction to enhance the application’s efficiency and experience.
Quick Wins; Must Haves & Good to Have
From navigational improvements to enhancing interaction elements, suggestions were provided to avoid disruptions in task flow due to environmental influences and aligning the features to user’s mental model; while also making on-boarding process improvements; the usability test results helped WhiteCoats become more usable, efficient and effective product.
